Seniors Yaneve Fonge and Jackie Cinella traveled to Columbus, Ohio over spring break to compete in the NCAA Division III National Championships on behalf of the women’s track and field team on Friday, March 11.

Fonge continued her unstoppable streak of record breaking — her throw of 19.24 meters in the 20-lb. weight throw was her career best and crushed her previous personal best (and school record) of 18.92 meters  that was set the week before at the ECAC championships.Fonge’s throw earned her second place and was the fourth farthest throw in the history of Division III. She was second to the defending champion Holly Oshkosh of the University of  Wisconsin Oshkock, who won with a throw of 20.62 meters.

Fonge won the weight throw in both the New York state Collegiate Track Conference Championship and the ECAC Championship meets.

Cinella competed in the 800-meter run and finished fifth in her heat with a time of 2:16.57. Unfortunately, her eleventh-place finish overall wasn’t enough to qualify her for the finals (she was seeded fifteenth entering the event). Cinella finished first in the 800 at the NYSCTC and anchored the winning 4×400-meter relay. She also finished third at the ECAC championships last week.
