Security responded to a report of a suspicious odor, believed to be burning marijuana, coming from a room on Jan. 30 at 8:15 p.m. According to UR Security Investigator Dan Laferty, officers found a four-inch knife plunged into the side of a university-owned closet. One of the room’s occupants later admitted to a security advisor that he had stuck the knife in the closet. No police report was filed although the matter is being reviewed by the Dean of Student’s office, according to UR Security.

Food items stolen from Wilson CommonAn Aramark employee reported that a case of hot sauce and two cases of milk were stolen from the food storage areas in the Wilson Commons Pit area between Jan. 26 and 29. In addition, a box of hot dogs was stolen from the freezer in the Frederick Douglass Building around the same time. According to UR Security, the estimated value of the stolen items amounts to $79.50. No police report has been filed.

Drugs confiscated from Slater resident Suspected marijuana, other drugs, and drug paraphernalia was confiscated from a student residing in Slater House by security on Jan. 31 at 3:26 a.m. A resident of the suite was dishonest at first, but eventually admitted to smoking marijuana. According to security, containers of alcohol were also seized because the student in question is underage. The case is currently being reviewed to determine appropriate action. The Dean of Student’s office was also notified.

Partially-burned cloth in showerA student notified UR Security on Jan. 2 at 3:14 a.m. that he smelled something burning in the third floor men’s room in Tiernan, adjacent to room 323. Officers found what appeared to be a wash cloth or towel that had been set on fire. The cloth had scorched the partition and partially burnt a plastic shower liner. The Rochester Fire Department responded along with an arson investigator. According to Laferty, the identity of the person responsible is unknown and anyone with information is encouraged to contact university security.

Boots stolen from Gilbert HallA Gilbert resident reported the theft of her boots from the hallway between the hours of 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 and 3 a.m. on Feb. 1, according to security. Information provided by UR Security.
