The Yellowjackets scored a near victory against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers in women’s lacrosse April 18. The game ended in a very close 10–9 win that was entertaining to all watching.

Through the quarters, the Yellowjackets were able to come out on top. The Engineers scored the first three goals of the game, leaving the ’Jackets to play catch up. Coming into the second quarter, the Engineers scored another four goals while the ’Jackets scored two, bringing the score to 7–4. This put both teams into a very interesting position at halftime: The Engineers wanted to stay defensive and hold their lead, while the ’Jackets took a more offensive tactic to try to take the lead.

Beginning in the third quarter, the ’Jackets began to make their comeback in earnest against the Engineers. Playing both an offensive and defensive quarter, scoring two more goals while blocking the Engineers from scoring any, the ’Jackets narrowed the gap to one goal: 7–6 Engineers.

In the fourth quarter, with the score tied 9–9, senior on attack Alyssa Gorny took a shot with one minute and 11 seconds remaining in the fourth period. That goal was the game winner and tied Gorny with the previous single-season record of 77 points achieved by Jenny Rogers ’02.

This was the ’Jackets’ fifth consecutive win, and seventh Liberty League win of the season. Their latest game on April 25 ended in a close loss of 11–14 to the Union College Chargers to end the regular season.

Playoffs will begin on April 28 at home against the St. Lawrence University Saints.
