Field hockey took on a tough schedule in the past week, taking on three SUNY teams in eight days.

The Yellowjackets took a tough defeat Tuesday, Oct. 9, when UR played SUNY Brockport. Although many shots were taken from both sides, no goals were scored during regulation time.

UR, hoping to fight back after a hard loss to St. Lawrence College last week, tried in overtime to defeat Brockport. After the first overtime, the score was still 0-0.

In the second overtime, the Yellowjackets came out firing, but were unable to score on Brockport. Soon, the tides turned and Brockport scored, winning the game 1-0.

?We had a lot of chances to score and we just weren?t capitalizing on them,? said senior midfielder and captain Sierra Dillaway. ?I don?t think we adjusted playing on the grass as well as we could have.?

Next on the schedule for the Yellowjackets was SUNY Oswego, Thursday. For the first game at home since Sept. 27, the fans came out in masses to support UR ? the team did not disappoint.

The first goal came from the stick of Dillaway.

Sophomore forward and midfielder Kaitlin Poeth broke through the Oswego defense down the side and into the circle. Poeth passed the ball to Dillaway, who shot the ball into the back of the net between the goalie?s legs.

Soon after, Dillaway played, once again, a part in a scoring opportunity. Dillaway passed the ball to junior forward Nicole Ketterer, who shot the ball into the side of the net. Near the end of the game, Oswego scored a goal to make the final score 2-1.

Saturday, the Yellowjackets took on SUNY Geneseo. Much like their performance against Brockport, UR seemed to have trouble getting used to playing on real grass. In what appeared to be a lack of communication amongst the team, the Yellowjackets lost 3-0.

UR is now 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. The women will face action next with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Fauver Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
