Student held at knifepoint
An undergraduate student was assaulted on the pedestrian path down by the Genesee River next to the Interfaith Chapel on Sunday, Nov. 22 around 5:30 a.m., according to an e-mail message sent out by Director of UR Security Walter Mauldin.
The suspect, wearing dark clothing, approached the student, grabbed him by the arm and pushed him against the wall. The suspect demanded cash, and when the student stated that he had none, the suspect jabbed the student’s abdomen three times with a knife, which caused at least one small puncture. The suspect then dropped the knife and left the scene on foot, walking toward Elmwood Avenue.
The student had left his Fraternity Quad residence to make a personal phone call and to take a late-night walk when the stabbing occurred.
When Security and Rochester Police Department officers searched the area, they found a paring knife. A police K-9 team was unable to pick up a scent that could give them any other leads.
The student was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and released after 8 a.m.
The RPD and UR Security’s investigations are ongoing.
Frat brothers caught
with sorority letters
Two individuals were seen on Close Circuit Television carrying Greek letters and entering Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity House, on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 2:35 am.
The responding officers found the individuals and identified them as brothers of the fraternity.
According to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty, the suspects said that they had taken the letters from the fourth and sixth floors of Wilder Tower for a prank.
The letters were found to belong to Kappa Delta and Sigma Delta Tau sororities.
The security officers warned and advised the suspects against future behavior.
The letters were collected for safekeeping for the sororities to come and claim.
Game systems stolen from unlocked suite
Between Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 5:00 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 27 at 11:30 a.m., an unidentified suspect or suspects entered a suite in Wilder Tower and stole two Nintendo Wiis, an Xbox 360, controllers and games for each game unit and a memory card.
According to Lafferty, the game units were located in the common area of the suite and the residents of the suite allowed other students to enter and use the items.
One of the students reported to the officer that they accidently left the suite door unsecured.
At the present time, no police report has been filed by the victims.
Visitor remiss after giving
personal information
At the Eastman School of Music, on Saturday, Nov. 28, at midnight, a visitor reported that she was approached by an unidentified suspect who asked her for money to get him back to Liverpool, N.Y.
The visitor gave the suspect $15, and the suspect then asked for the visitor’s name and address so that he could send her the money.
According to Lafferty, she gave the suspect a business card with her name, address, phone number and e-mail address.
The suspect left and traveled toward Main Street. The visitor then became concerned that the suspect was not ‘legitimate” and had her personal information.
The visitor was planning to alert her local police department about the incident when she returned home.
The suspect was unable to be located.
