Exhibition captivates onlookers on Academic Quad

Officers arrived in front of the entrance of Rush Rhees library at 3:24 p.m. last Thursday to find a student handcuffed by one arm to a wooden stock, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.

The student’s other hand was free but handcuffed, with the other end of the handcuff left dangling. The student was not wearing a shirt.

Security officers had responded to a report that the student was trying to hang himself. When they arrived, a staff member in the area informed the officers that the student was performing a theatrical skit.

The officers examined the student and determined that he was not in any danger.

The officers contacted EMS and notified them to cancel police and ambulance personnel responding to the scene.

Student caught urinating off Phase Bridge

A student was reported urinating off the side of Phase Bridge at 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, according to Lafferty. Officers were directed to the Community Living Center, where the suspect was located and identified.

The student admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the night. He said that he was only 18 years old. He claimed that he felt the need to relieve himself while walking back from Hill Court.

The student did not appear intoxicated at the time that he was questioned.

The student was warned and advised against further public urination.

Viewer of pornography caught in the act

An unidentified person was observed by library staff to be viewing pornographic material on a public computer in Carlson Library, according to Lafferty.

The incident occurred at 3:42 p.m. on Thursday.

The staff summoned security and told the officers that staff members had approached the individual and advised him to stop viewing the inappropriate material.

The individual had been on the computer for over half an hour.

The responding officers were not able to locate the suspect, who had apparently left after being spoken to by the staff.

Trespassing hoopsters shoot around in Spurrier

Three different groups of individuals not affiliated with the University were caught playing basketball in Spurrier gym, according to Lafferty. The individuals entered through a broken door.

The individuals left the area when security officers arrived. They were advised that the facility is private property and that they were not allowed in the facility without prior authorization.

Facilities staff was contacted to repair the door.
