The UR Yellowjackets competed against the Nazareth Golden Flyers Sept. 16. With their outstanding perfect game of 3–0, the Yellowjackets added another home win to their record. This match will help the Yellowjackets’ standing in the brackets for University Athletic Association (UAA) games starting Sept. 27. The league championship game will take place in November, once the courts close for the season.  

The match took many turns, but overall was a highlight for the Yellowjackets. First-year Sancia Williams, #8, made an impression during the game as she created a new career all-time high of 11 kills in a single match, on top of  smashing 39 of the Golden Flyers’ passes.

Senior Rylee Bergeron, #11, added another nine kills to the match total — which gave the ’Jackets an advantage going into the third round — as well as a team-total 13 dives to keep the ball in play for her fellow teammates.

First-year Ellen Porter, #17, and Senior Katie Westerheim, #7, each sent three aces over the net, restricting the Golden Flyers from setting and spiking it back. Among this, the Yellowjackets achieved many successful bump, set, spike combinations to kill the Golden Flyers, and gain a point to their overall score of the game.

The Yellowjackets’ next game is Sept. 24, at SUNY Morrisville. This game against the Mustangs will be the last one before UAA’s start on Sept. 27, with the majority of the games the women play through November being UAA league games that count toward their record, and a handful of out of league games that won’t affect the season’s results.
