Fashion is an ever-evolving industry. Every new era brings in new looks. But with Gen Z, it’s a different story. We’ve brought back styles from older eras to rock the fashion industry once again. Let’s examine our best fashion comebacks.

  1. Skinny jeans used to be the jeans everyone wanted to wear, but now ’80s and ’90s straight-cut jeans are replacing them. The straight-cut jean comes in many different styles —  ripped, cargo-style, low, mid and high rise, in every  color you can think of.
  2. The Y2K trend has stormed the Internet. Lookbooks with this trend are all over social media. Low-rise jeans, fun color combinations, flowy pants, and ’00s prints have all come back. My personal favorite are the ‘00s cartoon-printed tees. I love a good Powerpuff Girls top!
  3. This one shouldn’t come as a surprise — the famous “prep” style. What started in the ’50s, as seen in movies like “Grease,” flourished in the ’70s and ’80s. For example, the popular film “Heathers” (1988) showcases multiple preppy styles, from short pleated skirts to button-up blazers and knee-high socks. Sweater vests, argyle and oxford-style sweaters, button-ups to Mary Jane’s — prep style is back and better than ever!
  4. Next up are parachute pants, a style now mostly worn for more sporty looks. These pants first became popular in the ’80s. Now, they’re worn by popular celebrities such as Blackpink’s Rosé and Hailey Bieber. These statement pieces can be styled with items such as crop tops, oversized t-shirts, and sneakers.
  5. This next trend is a favorite of mine — leg warmers. Popularized in the ’80s by dancers who wanted to avoid injury, this accessory is now being worn over jeans or with skirts as a fashion statement! Popular fashion influencers from Japan wear these during all seasons. They’re both stylish and warm!
  6. Finally, the Bermuda shorts. These longer shorts first became popular in the ’20s, and are now worn by today’s hottest celebrities — Blackpink’s Lisa, Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, and many more. Take your pick from jean, khaki, or sweatpant materials — they’re extra cute when styled with baggy shirts and chunky sneakers.

All of these fashion trends and pieces from older eras are coming back in fun new ways. Gen Z has this way of both preserving iconic styles and adding a modern twist to them — and stores are loving the new trends. Shops like H&M, Forever 21, and online retailers like Romwe have made these new throwback looks super accessible and affordable. So if you’re looking to pick up any of these items, you won’t have any trouble finding them!

As the fashion industry continues to grow and expand, I think it’s great that our generation is bringing back these old styles. But with these ever-changing trends, it’s easy to lose your own style. Remember that fashion is all about expressing yourself. Your fashion is yours. You never have to follow any trend. But if you do want to play around with your wardrobe while keeping your individuality, you can always try adjusting these trends to fit your own style. Whether it’s an older or newer style, there’s always a way to make it your own!

I had hoped that Lanthimos would make more substantial changes than swapping the gender of the central character and adding a dramatic musical score to make this story his own. Over its two-hour runtime, this thrilling comedy dabbles in the world of conspiracy theories, aliens, and human existence, but fails to leave a lasting impact. Read More
