Munro roof becomes a party
1. On Saturday, over the span of an hour, there were two separate incidents of students going on to an off-limits roof.
The incidents took place at 12:44 and 1:18 a.m., both at Munro House in Hill Court.
According to Senior Security Investigator Dan Lafferty, it was determined that access to the roof was gained by forcing open an alarmed door on both occasions.
In the first incident, five total individuals were identified: two UR students and three visitors. One member of this group was found to be in possession off a non-traditional smoking device, which was confiscated.The second incident involved five UR students.
In both cases, individuals were warned against such activity in the future.
Undergraduate driver loses control
2. On Saturday, April 3, officers responded to a report of a vehicular accident where they found a car 50 feet off the road in the wooded area on the west side of Wilson Blvd.
The driver of the vehicle was located and identified as an undergraduate student. The individual claimed that he accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake when coming to the traffic circle. According to Lafferty, the individual was uninjured and there was no one else in the car.
Police conducted an investigation and issued the driver a traffic citation, and the driver arranged through AAA to have his car towed from the area.
Student’s room entered, items stolen from desk
3. A student living in Gilbert Hall reported that at 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, and 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, an unidentified individual entered his room and took items from his desk drawer.
According to Lafferty, an iPod Touch and $30 in cash were stolen from the room.
On both occasions, the student’s room was left unattended and unsecured. A police report may be filed later.
Visiting student’s car robbed; items stolen
4. Several items were stolen from a visiting student’s vehicle at 3:25 a.m., on Friday, April 2. The victim parked her car in the Inter Campus Drive Lot near the Library Lot area while she visited friends on campus. According to Security Investigator Dan Lafferty, the culprit gained access to the vehicle by breaking the rear passenger side window.
The visitor reported that her iPod, GPS unit, cell phone and wallet which contained cash, credit cards and personal identification were stolen from the backseat.
No police report has been filed at the current time, but the victim may choose to file one at a later date.
Cooking oil sets off fire alarm
5. At 9:27 p.m. on Saturday night, officers responded to activated fire alarms on the second floor of Building A at the Riverview Apartments.
Officers were able to determine that the two alarms were set off by cooking oil which was left on the stove and had started to burn.
According to Lafferty, police cleared the detectors and reset the alarm once the situation was under control. No damage to the building or property were reported, and there were no injuries.
