Fraternity house vandalized
One of the windows of the Delta Kappa Upsilon Fraternity house was shattered on Friday, Feb. 5.
According to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty, a resident of the house reported hearing a loud noise to Security between 1 and 1:30 a.m. After checking the scene, the resident found a skateboard sitting on the ledge of the first floor window.
The suspect, who had apparently thrown the skateboard through the window, left the scene by the time the fraternity brother discovered the vandalism.
Residents of the house informed officers on the scene that four unidentified individuals were told to leave the house earlier that day. It is currently unknown whether any of these individuals were involved with the vandalism.
Under-clothed suspect spotted on River Campus
A student walking on the sidewalk along Intercampus Lot reported seeing a questionable individual walking between Harkness and Meliora Halls on Friday.
The student claimed that the suspect was wearing only a sweatshirt, winter boots and a winter hat.
According to Lafferty, the student walked toward the bus stop on Library Road to be in a more densely populated area. When the student quickened her pace, the suspect followed her and increased his pace as well.
The student reported that the suspect then removed his sweatshirt and attempted to hide behind a tree.
A few moments later, the student saw the suspect walking in the opposite direction. He had put his sweatshirt back on.
The responding officer checked the immediate and surrounding areas, but was unable to locate the suspect. The victim has declined to file a police report at the current time.
Graduate student’s desk searched
Upon returning to her cubicle on the second floor of Hutchison Hall, a graduate student reported seeing an unidentified individual leaving the cubicle. The report was filed at 2 p.m. on Friday, according to Lafferty.
When the student returned, the suspect said ‘excuse me” and left the area. The student reported that two drawers of her desk were left open.
A responding officer checked the area, but found that nothing was stolen from the student’s cubicle. The student has yet to file a police report.
Fire jugglers caught in Riverview
A security officer patrolling Riverview Apartments on Sunday, Feb. 7 spotted two individuals juggling flaming torches between buildings A and C.
According to Lafferty, the individuals extinguished the flames as officers approached. One of the two was identified as a UR student, while the other is a faculty member at another area college.
The student claimed that he was practicing for his juggling club. Both individuals were cooperative, and they were warned against such activity in the future.
Update: Graduate student’s items recovered
Last week, it was reported that a graduate student’s laptop and backpack were stolen from the second floor of Rush Rhees Library.
It turned out that the items were not stolen, but picked up by a faculty member for safe keeping. The items were returned to the library desk, and the student reported no missing items.
