Internationally acclaimed poet and author Adam Zagajewski will give a poetry reading at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 11 in the Welles-Brown Room.
Zagajewski was born in Poland and has lived there most of his life. He is currently an Associate Professor of English in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston, where he teaches graduate classes in poetry and literature. He also coedits a Polish literary journal.
Some of Zagajewski?s poetry encompasses political issues from his experiences as an active dissident in Poland in the 1970s. His books include ?A Thin Line,? ?The Perfect Pitch? and ?Mysticism for Beginners.?
Zagajewski has been widely recognized and published in Polish, English, French, Hebrew, Italian, German, Swedish and Greek.
His visit to UR, in celebration of National Poetry Month, is sponsored by the Department of English, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies.
Zagajewski will be reading from a number of his newest poems.
The reading is free and open to the public with a reception to follow.
