We, the rational people of the United States of America, hereby declare our beliefs before the world.

We believe that it is within our power to make our nation and our world a better place and that government is the greatest of all tools for this purpose.

We believe that decision to create life is so sacred and personal that no government should ever have the right to interfere with it. We believe that the decision to end life through euthanasia is also fundamental to the rights of humanity.

We believe that love between two people can never be a sin and that government should not discriminate in choosing which forms of love it will choose to recognize. We believe that homosexuality, whether by birth or by choice, is just as moral and right as heterosexuality.

We believe, with Oliver Wendell Holmes, that taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.

We believe that those who can afford to pay more taxes must pay them because it is the only way that society can function.

We believe it is the role of government to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.

We believe that the right to life means the right to free medical care for everyone.

We believe that corporate welfare is more damaging to the health of the nation than individual welfare. We believe that money is not speech. We believe that the influence of big money on the democratic process is pernicious and must be combated.

We believe that the content of one’s character and not the condition of one’s birth should determine one’s lot in life. We believe that it is the responsibility of government to help ensure that this is the case.

We believe that all the people of the world are brothers and that no nation can abdicate its responsibility to all others. We believe that pre-emptive wars are contrary to the laws of both God and man.

We believe that we have a responsibility to help the sick and impoverished nations and peoples of the world in any way we can.

We believe that honor and morality decree that all civilized nations must do everything in their power to put an end to genocide around the world, including by military intervention.

We believe that true love of country requires recognizing failings and loving despite them and that “my country, right or wrong,” is the creed of slaves and fools. We believe that patriotism means always wanting your country to be better and greater than it is today. God bless America.

As per tradition, “The State of the Campus Times” updates readers on our affairs — the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) and Publisher write this pseudo-column at the start and end of every semester to articulate the struggles and joys found through managing your local student-run newspaper. We also introduce ourselves and our projects, what we hope to achieve during our terms, and we provide progress updates regarding past management’s pursuits. Read More
