Hutchison Hall experienced a minor leak in their water line during the week of Sept. 29. The water line feeds directly into the fire protection system, meaning Hutchison Hall – the hotspot for labs and other fire hazardous activities – was left without water sprinklers.

According to the URochester Chemistry Department, this water main leak was estimated to be fixed within two weeks. In the meantime, a security guard was tasked with providing fire watch between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

No major incidents took place inside of Hutchison Hall while the fire protection system was down. Experiments and labs continued as usual, and no use was made of the precautionary measures. As predicted, the main took the better part of two weeks to repair and is now in functional condition once again.
