A series of armed robberies off campus have occurred in the past week. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, a male undergraduate was robbed at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Genesee Street near Terrace Park.
A group of five or six teenage males approached the undergraduate, who was walking south on Genesee Street, and demanded the contents of his pockets.
The group of males began to hit the victim on the head. The student surrendered his cell phone to the males, who consequently fled the scene and headed north on Genesee Street.
Once the student arrived at his residence, he contacted the Rochester Police Department, who checked the surrounding area but did not find the suspects.
The student declined medical attention.
Another armed robbery occurred on Sunday, Oct. 28 off campus. Two female undergraduates were robbed at about 8:20 p.m. on Congress Avenue, off of Genesee Street.
Upon parking the car on Congress Avenue and heading toward their residence, the two undergraduates noticed two teenage males walking toward them.
The males were wearing black hoodies to hide their faces. It was noted that one of the males was carrying a gun.
Using the gun, the suspects forced the students to the ground and demanded money. The students acquiesced.
The males then left the area, running toward Terrace Park. The females, uninjured, immediately notified RPD, who conducted a search of the area using a tracking dog. The suspects were not able to be located.
Ex-boyfriend punches, then headbutts wall
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, residents of Gilbert Hall reported the presence of an individual in the dorm whom they recognized as the former boyfriend of another resident, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.
The individual proceeded to go to the room of his former girlfriend, threatening physical violence if anyone attempted to stop him. The residents followed the suspect and prevented him from entering the student’s room.
The individual then punched one of the residents in the head; he also punched both a wall and a door and finished off by head-butting the wall. He then left the area.
The officers who reported to the scene detained the suspect outside the dorm and identified him as a student from another college in the area. The suspect was found to have a laceration on his head and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via ambulance for emergency care.
Security issued the suspect an interim ban form and advised him not to return to University property. Neither the student who was punched nor the student the suspect came to visit pursued the issue with RPD.
