1. A suspect backed his vehicle over the curb on Wilson Boulevard in the area between the stadium and the baseball field and knocked over a parking meter on Monday, Oct. 31 at 7:35 a.m.
The individual then placed the meter and the pole in the trunk of his car and departed the area.
Responding officers saw the vehicle traveling north on Wilson Boulevard at a high speed. Officers were able to record the car’s license plate number and recognized the driver from previous incidents, according to UR Security Investigator Daniel Lafferty.
Police were notified and a report was filed.
Fire alarm sounds in Lattimore
2. Security officers responded to an activated fire alarm in Lattimore Hall on Monday, Oct. 31 at 10:50 a.m. and noticed an electrical burning odor accompanied by a slight haze in the second floor hallway, Lafferty said.
The Rochester Fire Department, UR Facilities and a University Fire Inspector responded and determined that the fire was caused by a damaged light socket in a ceiling light near Room 208.
Facilities replaced the light socket and the system was reset. There were no injuries or other damages.
Laptop stolen during bathroom break
3. A student reported that his laptop was stolen from the fourth floor study area in Gilbert Hall on Sunday, Oct. 30.
The victim said that he left his laptop unsecured and unattended in the study area around 11:45 p.m. while he used the restroom. When he returned 15 minutes later, his laptop was gone.
The victim reported that he checked the surrounding areas with negative results, according to Lafferty.
A police report has not been filed at this time.
Unaffiliated individual suspected in ESM wallet theft
4. A student reported that his wallet containing his ID cards, drivers license and credit cards was stolen from a basement practice room at the Eastman School of Music on Thursday, Oct. 27 at around 3:25 p.m. while he was using the restroom.
The student reported that he observed an individual that he did not think was affiliated with the school in the area before the theft, Lafferty said. A police report was to be filed via 311.
Flaming paper towel catalyzes a fire
5. A fire alarm was activated in Bausch & Lomb Hall adjacent to Room 167 on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 11:13 a.m.
A UR Facilities employee told responding officers that he was walking down the hall when he smelled something burning. A short time later, the alarm went off.
The employee said that he found a burning paper towel in the trash can inside the women’s restroom and proceeded to douse it with water, according to Lafferty.
The Rochester Fire Department responded, determined that the area was all clear and reset the pull station. No one was injured and nothing was damaged.
