The men’s tennis team blanked LeMoyne College, 9-0, to win their third game in the past weeks.

The Rochester men’s tennis team swung their way to an impressive victory over LeMoyne College on Sunday, Feb. 20th. LeMoyne is a Division II school located in Syracuse, NY.

Rochester defeated LeMoyne in all six of the singles matches, five of the six in straight sets — a testament to the team’s dominant play.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Boris Borovcanin won his match (6-3, 7-5). Junior Matt Volkov had little difficulty in claiming No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-0). Junior Brian Rice continued the home team’s winning streak by defeating LeMoyne’s Joseph Persia, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Joel Allen, a sophomore, defeated Daryl Johnson in No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-2). On the fifth singles court,  senior Dan Barbash easily won over his opponent, surrendering only one game (6-1, 6-0). At No. 6 singles, Jonathan Lieb, a junior, faced a tough competitor in LeMoyne’s Michael Green. Lieb won the first set (6-2) before dropping the second set (6-3). Lieb was able to recover from the setback, clinching the match with a win in the super-tiebreaker (10-6).

UR dominated the doubles matches as well, taking all three pairings.

Borovcanin and Rice handily won No. 1 doubles (8-3). UR’s duo of Barbash and John-Etter Lewis kept the yellow and blue’s quick pace by outplaying their LeMoyne counterparts (8-6) at No. 2 doubles. Zink and Volkov completed the shutout by winning No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

With the win, the men’s team moves to 5-2. The men are looking forward to playing in a tournament in Orlando, Fla. over spring break.
