Three UR students were robbed at gunpoint after leaving a city restaurant Monday. The undergraduates filed reports with both campus security and city police after the incident, which occurred between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m, according to UR Investigator Dan Lafferty.
After leaving the Thurston Road restaurant, the students were approached by a suspect as they tried to cross the street. The perpetrator asked the students if they wanted to buy marijuana. The students reportedly told the suspect they were “all set,” according to UR Security.
Two more suspects revealed themselves from behind bushes. Security reports that at least one was wielding a handgun. “The suspects ordered the students to lie on the ground, then stole their wallets, keys and university IDs,” according to Lafferty.
The university deactivated the IDs as a precaution.
None of the students sustained injuries and no gun was fired, according to security.
In response to the attack, a Community Bulletin was issued warning of such off-campus robberies. This is not the only recent case, security said, although no further information was available.
Two Sue B residents hospitalized
On two consecutive days, officers responded to Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls after reports of intoxicated students, according to Lafferty.
Of the three students involved, all were underage and two were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation, security reports. The third was deemed healthy enough to remain at Sue B, according to security.
Two of the students reported drinking at an unidentified location. Information from the third was unavailable “due to the level of intoxication,” according to Lafferty.
Two bicycles stolen in separate incidents
Security reports bicycles stolen from the railing outside Anderson Tower and rack outside Harkness Hall. Both bicycles were secured at the time, one with chain and lock and the other with a cable lock, according to security.
The Anderson theft occurred Sept 19 between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. the following morning. At Harkness, the bike went missing between 8:45 and 11:10 on September 23.
Neither bike owner filed report with the Rochester Police Department, though they may do so in the future. The bicycles were valued at $375 and $200 respectively, according to security.
Youths arrested after failed break-in attempt
An attempt to forcibly enter Eastman’s chain-link fenced bicycle storage area was stopped after a witness called campus security and RPD, according to Lafferty.
The suspects, whose ages range from 12-14, were apprehended by police.
Damage to the bicycle fencing, caused by bolt-cutters, is reportedly valued at $170.
None of the bicycles were taken or damaged by the assailants, according to Lafferty.
