Sections of River Campus’ pedestrian tunnel system will be closed this fall as the University continues repair work on its underground utility tunnels.
This closure will include the tunnel between both sides of Eastman Quad, which is typically used for Welcome Week event “Make UR Mark” where incoming students paint the tunnel walls, and is later used by clubs to promote events via both paintings and flyers. The tunnels connecting Bausch and Lomb Hall, Dewey Hall, and Hoyt Hall will also be closed.
Beyond showcasing artwork and advertising events, students also use the tunnels to display social commentary, as well as escape freezing temperatures and snow.
The tunnels are expected to reopen for use before the end of the fall semester.
