Joe Stadolnik, or as he’s known to some around campus, “UR’s finest,” is an asset to the UR community in academics, extracurriculars and community service. Hailing from Medway, MA, Stadolnik, a junior, occupies his time by DJing at UR’s own radio station, WRUR 88.5 FM, serving on the board of Amnesty International and tutoring at St. Boniface Charter School through UR Education Alliance.

In addition, Stadolnik has gotten involved with Rotary International, a global community service network that “provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.”

Stadolnik also serves as a Resident Advisor in Anderson Tower. He is headed for a degree in English.

Why did you major in English?

I took my first English class to cash in on AP credit, and just never stopped. Professor Peck’s class on Chaucer sealed the deal. I didn’t want to be tied to one area of study for four years, and English has let me branch out. I also watched unhealthy amounts of Wishbone at an impressionable age.

Talk about your involvement in community service.

This year I started up UR Rotaract, a community service group affiliated with Rotary International, which has kept me busy. Right now we are gearing up for a trip to rural Kentucky for spring break. I started Rotaract after going on the spring break trip to Biloxi, Miss. last spring. It was hands-down the highlight of my time at UR. I wanted to make sure these opportunities would be available for students every year.

What is your dream job?

I don’t know if this counts as a job, but I’d love to be minor British royalty. I’d be best friends with Mick Jagger and have around two hundred hunting dogs. I’d also probably have hemophilia, but it would be worth it. Honestly though, I’d like to somehow combine my interests in the mass media and health.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

TV shows that I may or may not have legally accessed. I quote “Arrested Development” and “The Office” completely out of context, for no reason – it’s probably really aggravating.

What’s the last good book you read?

“The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier. Somehow I missed that one in middle school. Probably because there was no Chocolate War Wishbone episode.

What’s the last good movie you saw?

Robert Altman’s M*A*S*H. Nothing like the TV show. It’s full of jokes about violent death, yet ends in a grown man’s version of the Little Giants.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Rochester?

I’m a diehard Little Theatre fan. Coming in a close second is going to Gitsi’s on Monroe Ave. at any time of night.
