Beginning yesterday, members of the UR community may contact the Department of Public Safety (DPS) via text, using the 585-275-3333 DPS phone number. Dispatchers are also able to respond to these messages over text as well.

According to an email to Campus Times from DPS Chief Mark Fischer, the idea came from a student suggestion a few months ago at the DPS Student Advisory Board.

DPS covers on-campus disturbances. Off campus, the Rochester Police Department also has a text function.
