Over 100 parents, students and fans gathered in Clinton, N.Y. on April 15 to watch the nationally-ranked Continentals of Hamilton College play the Yellowjackets.

UR lost 16-9 to the then-No. 11 team. With the win, Hamilton College improved to a 4-1 record in the Liberty League and 8-3 overall record, and UR fell to 4-9 overall.

Hamilton, in a three-way tie for first in the Liberty League, finished their weekend of play with an afternoon game against William Smith College on Saturday. For the first time in four years, the Continentals defeated the Herons 13-5.

Statistically, UR and Hamilton were even in the first half of Friday’s game. Both teams managed twelve shots on goal, but it was Hamilton that scored the first three points in the first half.

Within 10 minutes of play time, however, back-to-back goals by senior Rachel Hawley and sophomores Christina Montano and Heidi Davies brought the game into the Yellowjackets’ favor with a score of 4-3. The first half ended with the score favoring the Continentals 8-6. Senior goalie Cassie Glanton saved two shots. Hawley, Davies, and Montano netted two goals apiece and sophomore Laura Giusto had one assist.

In the second half, Hamilton went on another 3-0 scoring drive to pull ahead of the Yellowjackets 11-6. UR responded with an unassisted goal by Montano, closely followed by a free position shot by Giusto. Hawley added her third goal of the game with 2:58 remaining, increasing the Yellowjackets’ total to nine. The Continentals countered by mounting another eight goals to earn the win.

Throughout the game, Glanton made nine saves against 25 shots. Hawley and Montano led the team with three goals each. Davies added two goals to the effort and Giusto added one goal and one assist.

Seniors Elizabeth Sack and Emily Riegel, junior Lisa Aronoff and sophomore Adrienne Sopinski attempted five shots, collectively. For Hamilton College, sophomores Inga Stots and Suzy Belmont led the Continentals with three goals and one assist each.

After a week-long break from games, the Yellowjackets hosted the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Red Hawks at Fauver Stadium on April 22. RPI is 5-4 overall and boasts both a Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week and a Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week for the week of April 18. The Red Hawks are currently ranked fourth.

The Yellowjackets will remain at home to face No. 7 Vassar College on April 23. The completion of this upcoming weekend’s games will leave only one regular season game left against Nazareth College on April 27.
