Two senior members of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity attempted to steal several items from Drama House Friday, April 20.
A UR Security officer and a student aide who were patrolling the Fraternity Quad discovered the students. One was standing inside the house handing items out through the window to the other student standing outside.
Upon seeing Security, the students fled through Drama House across the quad and tried to escape into the Theta Chi house?s back porch door.
The officer apprehended both students and determined that they were stealing stereo speakers and a VCR. The stolen property was returned to Drama House. Officers notified the Rochester Police Department and burglary charges were filed. The police case remains open at this time, Security Investigator Dan Lafferty said.
Car, keys stolen from student
A student in Anderson Tower reported that someone entered her unlocked suite and room to steal her car keys from the top of her desk between Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, April 20 at 3 a.m. She reported that her 1999 Volvo was stolen from Area ?O? parking lot. Her wallet was in the car at the time, and contained about $75 in cash, credit cards and other personal papers. She notified RPD and filed a report.
A staff member found her social security card and other documents behind the Wilson Boulevard bus stop. The estimated value of the loss is $35,120.
Rochester man arrested on campus
Timothy Daniels, 39, was arrested on charges of trespassing on the River Campus at 1 a.m. Thursday, April 19.
University Health Services employees had notified Security that Daniels was outside the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls removing parts of bikes parked outside the dorm.
Officers found Daniels on Wilson Boulevard in possession of several bike parts that did not seem to belong to him, Lafferty said.
Daniels also had the ?odor of alcohol? on his breath and became angry when questioned and asked for identification, Lafferty said.
Officers notified RPD, who arrested Daniels. The case is currently pending in Rochester City Court. Officers attempted to find the owners of the bikes, as well as match up the rescued parts with the bikes, but were not successful.
Visitor?s bag stolen and found
A visitor to the university reported that her bag was stolen from Danforth Dining Center after she had inadvertently left it on the floor beside her chair after eating dinner with her family around 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 20. Upon realizing she left her bag, she returned to Danforth to find that her bag was gone.
The victim reported that her bag contained airline tickets, passports, credit cards, personal documents, a cell phone and $1,500 in cash. She filed a report with RPD at that time.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., a staff member in Wallis Hall contacted Security. He said a student said she found the bag in a restroom in the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls and turned it in to him.
Everything in the bag was there except for the cell phone and the cash, Lafferty said.
