First Niagara invests in Eastman program

Since 1997, the Eastman School of Music has been providing scholarships and private lessons to outstanding fifth to 12th grade musicians in the Rochester area through the Eastman Pathways Program. Now, with support from First Niagara Bank, the program is expanding to include more students and provide them with more extensive services.

First Niagara’s investment of $10,000 is enough to allow Eastman Pathways to now support 70 talented Rochester youths.

In addition, the money will help to create new events and forums through which Eastman Pathways participants can meet other up-and-coming musicians and build lasting friendships.

Eastman Pathways particularly targets students who would be unable to afford private lessons without the help of the program. In fact, 80 percent of the musicians involved in the program fall below the federal poverty line.

UR administrator selected to American Council on Education Fellowship

Julie Beuhler, UR Deputy Chief Information Officer, has been chosen as a fellow by the American Council on Education (ACE).

The ACE Fellows Program is designed to identify outstanding administrators and senior staff members at universities and prepare them for top leadership positions.

Buehler is one of only 46 individuals in the U.S. to be selected for this prestigious honor.
According to Ralph Kuncl, University Provost and Executive Vice President, being and ACE Fellow is one of the premier honors that an administrator can receive. He also points out that around two-thirds of fellows go on to hold positions as deans, provosts, vice presidents or presidents.

Buehler has held administrative positions at the University since 1994, and she became the Deputy CEO in 2008.

Over the coming weeks she will be assigned to a host institution, where she will work with senior officers to improve her leadership abilities and prepare for future positions.

Fleming is a member of
