Democrats choose candidate for open seat in Congress

Matthew Zeller was recently selected by the Democrats to run in a special election against the former Corning Mayor and Republican candidate Tom Reed for a seat in the 29th Congressional District, after Democrat Eric Massa resigned from his seat in March.
Zeller is the top choice of the Democratic county chairs.

After graduating from Allendale Columbia School in Pittsford, N.Y., Zeller attended Hamilton College, where he received a master’s degree in Public Administration, and graduated in 2006. Zeller received a master’s degree in international relations from Syracuse University in 2006.

Zeller graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps National Advanced Leadership Camp in Fort Leews in Tacoma, Wash.

As of now, Governor David Paterson has not called for a special election, but he has pointed out that the cost of holding a special election could be too expensive.
If there is no special election called then candidates have the choice to petition to be put on the November ballot.

Former police chief faces weapons charges

Former Police Chief Merritt Rahn stated that he had a subordinate assist him in getting possession of a new pistol for himself from the department armory after his pistol was stolen, according to Greece Supervisor John Auberger.

In his testimony, there were some contradictions found in his statements about a previous witness, who Rahn had previously said went to the armory by himself.

In the New York State Supreme Court, Auberger testified that in a memo written by Rahn in February of 2001, he stated that his gun went missing from an unlocked car in late 1999.

At the conclusion of the trial Rahn was charged with three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. There was also one count of second-degree hindering prosecution as well as four counts of first-degree tampering with public records, one count of first-degree falsifying business records, one count of third-degree falsely reporting an incident and lastly, two counts of official misconduct.
