Two students were assaulted at the Sigma Chi fraternity house in the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 28.
An undergraduate student reported that he had been struck in the face while leaving a party at Sigma Chi at 1 a.m. An unidentified suspect allegedly picked up an unknown object from the ground and threw it at the victim?s face without provocation, Security Investigator Dan Lafferty said. The student sustained minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.
Another student tending bar at the Sigma Chi house reported that he was assaulted at 2:30 a.m. Someone had allegedly approached him and asked for a drink. The suspect was apparently unhappy that he had not been served immediately and punched the student in the face, Lafferty said. The victim refused medical attention.
Security officers are currently investigating both assaults.
Woman arrested for grand larceny
Tyra Peterson, a 30-year-old Rochester resident, was arrested for grand larceny Sunday, Jan. 23 for the recent thefts of several wallets from offices on the River Campus and in Strong Memorial Hospital and the subsequent use of credit cards from the wallets.
The arrest was the result of a security investigation about the thefts. Rochester Police Department officers stated that Peterson had admitted her involvement in the theft of six wallets from offices at UR. This case is currently pending adjudication in Rochester Circuit Court.
Fake identification found in lost bag
A bag lost by an undergraduate student was found to contain fake identification. The student reported that she had lost her bag, which contained her wallet, in Danforth Dining Center Tuesday, Jan. 24. When she went back the next day to get it, she was not able to locate it.
A facilities member then found her bag and turned it over to Security for safekeeping. When officers checked the bag for identification, they found forged drivers? licenses along with her other property. They notified the student, who came in and spoke with them about the false identification.
She said that she had gotten the licenses while she was at home, Laffery said. Officers confiscated the false licenses for destruction. The matter is being referred to the Dean of Students? Office for further review.
Stranger found in Eastman
Officers responded to the Eastman Theatre for a report of an individual found in the area who was believed by staff not to belong there Thursday, Jan. 25. The individual was located in the main hall of the school, identified and warned about being in non-public areas of the school without authorization. He then left the building.
Wallet stolen from Hoeing
A student residing in Hoeing Hall reported that between 2 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, someone stole his money clip and $97 from the desk in his room while he slept. The student declined to file a report with RPD.
Wallet stolen from gym locker
A student reported that between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, someone stole his ID card and clothing from a locker in the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center. The stolen property is valued at approximately $24. The student declined to file a report with RPD.
