Looking for the best bargains in Rochester? The Rochester Public Market offers something for everyone, for less than anywhere else. It could keep you from shopping at Wegman’s ever again.

This European style civic center was first established in 1827 and boasts over 300 selling stalls both indoors and out in three sheds — two open-air areas and one that is fully enclosed. What’s more is that this unique shopping experience caters to the average college student on a tight budget.

You’ll find fresh fruit, meat, seafood, dairy products and other foods as well as crafts, jewelry and more at unbelievable and always negotiable prices.

The lively atmosphere of the market makes it an even more compelling place to visit.

Vendors actively peddle their wares to prospective customers at the covered outdoor booths. Around the outside of the square are even more shops and restaurants.

There one can find a hot dog stand that has got to be the best in Rochester. Also nearby is a coffeehouse where everything, even specialty drinks such as cappucino and espresso, are $1.

In fact, at the Public Market, $1 goes a long way. One can buy a basket of ripe pears, a case with several loaves of bread and much more for only a buck.

If you forget to bring cash, there’s even an ATM at the central administration building.

Be sure to get up early for the best selection of goods and to find a parking spot. However, also stay late for the best bargains since many vendors will lower all of their prices as closing time approaches.

The Public Market is at the end of Railroad St. off of East Main St. and is open year-round on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
