UR Security officers responded to reports of someone firing what was believed to be a BB-type weapon out of a fourth floor window in Hoeing Hall on Feb. 19 around 7:30 p.m.

One student reported being hit by an object fired from this area.

Officers identified the room in question and established contact with four persons in the room.

Two were found to be undergraduates and the other two non-affiliated visitors, according to Lafferty.

A paintball gun was surrendered to officers and responding Rochester Police Department officers took possession of the weapon.

The visitor who admitted firing the weapon out the window was escorted from the premises by RPD officers after being issued an interim ban form telling him not to return to university property, according to UR Security.

Shortly before 11 p.m. this same individual was observed returning to the campus via the pedestrian footbridge. UR Security officers located the individual inside Hoeing Hall and the RPD was summoned, according to Lafferty.

The individual was identified as Jarvis Hart, who was arrested on trespassing charges and taken into police custody, according to UR Security.

Small explosion

inside Wilmot Annex

A graduate student in Wilmot Annex poured a mixture of methanol and nitric acid into a waste container of nitric acid while disposing of the mixture under a fume hood.

This resulted in a small explosion on Feb. 21 at 1:40 p.m., according to UR Security.

A piece of the fume hood shattered, and a plastic container with hydrofloric acid was inside the hood, according to UR Security.

It is unknown if this container had been compromised or not. The Rochester Fire Department Hazmat, as well as University Environmental Health and Safety personnel responded, according to Lafferty.

Student falls down

Officers responded to Hoeing Hall for the report of a student who had fallen down some stairs and sustained injury at 11:37 p.m. on Feb. 18, according to Lafferty.

The student was found to have fallen backwards down the stairs on the third floor and sustained a head laceration.

Due to the nature of the injury, the student was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to UR Security.

Trespassing arrest made in Park Lot

An unidentified suspect entered a student’s vehicle parked in Park Lot and stole the stereo from the vehicle between 9:30 a.m. and 8:16 p.m. on Feb.21, according to Lafferty.

No damage was reported to the vehicle. The value of the stereo is estimated at $150. The student said that he would be filing a police report later, according to UR Security.

The suspect was identified as Anthony Addison, 34, who was arrested on trespassing charges.

Addison has had two previous contacts with security and had been issued an interim ban, according to Lafferty.
