If you’ve ever been able to venture anywhere from Boulder, Colo. to Westwood, Calif., perhaps you’ve been fortunate enough to patronize BJ’s Brewhouse, home of the “pizookie.”

Don’t let the funny name fool you. This cookie is not for the amateur.

The pizookie comes in several flavors including chocolate chunk, peanut butter and white chocolate macadamia nut.

The cookie itself is served piping hot in a deep-dish pizza pan with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. A written description simply does this cookie no justice.

To describe it in one word would be “orgasmic.”

“People have literally sent us poems that they’ve written about the pizookie,” co-CEO of Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc. Paul Motenko said.

“College students have written essays about it in their English classes.”

Below is the recipe, so that you can make your own chocolate chunk pizookie.

All ingredients listed in the recipe can be purchased at your local Corner Store.

Ingredients:

1 cup and 6 tablespoons of flour

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

1/3 cup of brown sugar

1/2 cup of granulated sugar

1 large egg

3/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract

6 ounces of chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the flour, salt, chocolate chips and baking soda in a medium bowl. In another bowl, mix the butter, sugars, egg and vanilla. Mix the ingredients in the two bowls together.

Put the dough in a 9-inch pan and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

When the cookie has finished baking, serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So, gather a few friends and indulge yourself with a heavenly dessert.

As recently as the early 2010s, it was standard practice for surgeons to provide 30 to 40 or more opioid pills for common, minimally invasive procedures. Most of these pills, however, would remain untouched, left over in the patient’s medical cabinet or kitchen pantries for potential misuse. A team of researchers led by URMC’s Dr. Jacob Moalem set out to reduce these opioid overprescriptions. Read More
