A Day in the Life is a Campus Times series highlighting the studies and lives of UR students. Answers have been lightly edited for grammar, clarity, and/or style.

Dominique Neveu is a sophomore majoring in Creative Writing and Psychology. She recently was in the company for “Merrily We Roll Along,” the newest production by UR’s student-run musical theater group, ROC Players.

Tell us about a typical day in your life during rehearsals for a Roc Players show.

Rehearsals usually start around 6 p.m. and end around 11 p.m. Before that, I go to class and do schoolwork, since it’s difficult to do so during rehearsals. There is time in between songs to eat, but I try to eat as much as I can before heading to rehearsals.

What is your major and why did you choose it?

I’m a Creative Writing and Psychology major. I want to be a writer for television one day, so I planned to go into creative writing from day one. Psychology is just something I’m very interested in, but it also helps with writing characters and their motivations.

How long have you been a part of ROC Players and why did you decide to join?

I’ve been a part of ROC Players since Fall 2021. I knew people who were a part of the group before joining and I was really interested in musical theater, so I started coming to meetings and had so much fun that I decided to stay.

What has your experience with preparing for the “Merrily We Roll Along” been like?

Preparing for “Merrily” has been a little hectic. I had OBOC rehearsals simultaneously, and everyone got a later start to rehearsals due to everyone coming to campus late. It wasn’t until two weeks ago that we even performed the show in order. It was a little difficult memorizing choreography but performing the show chronologically made everything click for me and others in the cast. We all grew to love this show — which not a lot of us knew about before auditions — and we hope others will too.

What is something you would want other students to know about being in a performance group on campus?

If you are even the slightest bit interested in performing, please join a club or group — I’m biased toward OBOC, ROCplayers, and TOOP, but there are so many others and it’s such a wonderful experience creating something that was originally just lines on paper.
