Are you looking to experience some of UR’s most exceptional vocal talent this weekend? Well, you’re in luck; it’s that time of year again, for the Midnight Ramblers’ fall show. This Saturday, in Strong Auditorium, the Midnight Ramblers, one of UR’s all-male a cappella groups will present the “Midnight Ramblers Horror Show” co-sponsored with the community service organization, Unite for Sight.
The Horror Show will feature a delightful mix of your old favorites and five exciting new songs that highlight the vocal talents of newest group members and experienced upperclassmen. The show will also feature a series of comedic, scary skits and spoofs based on classic horror movies, performed by the Ramblers themselves, that will give you a taste of the group’s witty and entertaining sense of humor. The guest group, the Mandarins – Syracuse University’s finest all-female a cappella group – will be an added bonus, performing as a feature of the show. Furthermore, UR’s all-female a capella group Vocal Point will sing alongside the Ramblers for one song. With the addition of an unprecedented six new Ramblers, making the group a solid sixteen, the Midnight Ramblers are fully prepared to entertain and are thrilled to show off their newest talent from this year’s freshman class. The 2010 Ramblers include Matt Stone, Roger Hillson, Chris Aguilar, Alex Perry, Mark Sobel and Mike Hanley.
If you just can’t get enough of the Ramblers, you will soon be able to enjoy them at your own leisure. The Ramblers are excited to be announcing the release of their first DVD. The Ramblers’ DVD includes a hodgepodge of Ramblers’ history. It includes everything from video footage from the group in their earliest years, previously unreleased bloopers, never-before seen tour footage, live concert footage, extra video iPod movies of the group and an abundance of hilarious video skits. And most importantly, the DVD will feature two bonus studio tracks off their next album, which they recorded last spring.
As a co-sponsored event, a portion of the proceeds from the concert will go to the community service organization Unite for Sight. Unite for Sight is a non-profit organization that serves to empower communities worldwide to improve eye health care and eliminate preventable blindness. Volunteer teams work with partner eye clinics in developing countries to provide eye care and eye health education programs. Within the Rochester community, the Rochester chapter of Unite for Sight holds vision screenings at local venues and implements education programs in local schools and after school programs. In addition, they connect patients with free health coverage, enabling many people to receive eye exams.
Come out this Sat., Nov. 4 from 8-10 p.m. at Strong Auditorium to the Midnight Ramblers “Horror Show” and enjoy excellent music for a worthwhile cause. Tickets are on sale at the Common Market for $5 and will be available for purchase at the door as well.
