Despite UR joining the Rochester Institute of Technology as hosts of the the Stonehurst Capital Invitational Regatta Sunday afternoon along the Genesee River, Harvard University and Syracuse University were the major victors.

The Crimsons captured the championship of the men?s open eight division as well as being crowned champions of the women?s open eight division.

Syracuse University grabbed the women?s and men?s heavyweight fours. Yale University and Queens University won the men?s and women?s lightweight eights respectively.

The format of the popular Stonehurst Regatta is a morning three-mile head race, where teams race for times instead of racing against other boats.

In the afternoon, boats compete to combine total times in a 1,500-meter race. This is the second year in a row that Harvard swept the Open Eight titles. Last season, Syracuse University?s Orangemen Varsity Four placed third.

However, UR is one of the only schools whose crew program does not fall within varsity.

Despite that, UR did compete in three of the six events.UR women?s heavyweight fours placed highest of the trio, placing 14th with a time of 43:48:30. The women went on to place 19th with a time of 36:10.02 in the women?s Heavyweight Eights.

The men had no such luck of cracking the top 20, placing 23rd overall in the men?s heavyweight eights. But UR is still excited.

?We do have a young boat and the freshman are showing good potential,? senior Galen Mitter-mann said.
