Raising cats and dogs is just too mainstream, which is why you should instead build your own penguin habitat.

Remember those simulation games you used to play when you were younger, like “Tamagotchi” and “Nintendogs?” “Penguin’s Isle” is exactly one of those incremental phone games where you don’t have to put too much effort in but still get the most out of it.

You start with a plain, basic isle and are then responsible for constructing more habitats. As you raise your colony of penguins, you will have access to more habitats and penguin species. Every penguin is responsible for a specific job .

Once you have a decent multi-habitat isle, all that’s left to do is to enjoy the gratification and sense of accomplishment. This is perfect for people who need a boost of motivation after a devastating week of classes — I regain 90 percent of my self-esteem every week with my outstanding accomplishment of raising these penguins.

If that sounds like too much work, you could also just sit back, hatch penguin eggs, and follow around your fellow penguins to take photos. Who doesn’t like cute photos of penguins?

Besides the absolutely adorable penguins (that no player would be able to resist), the overall atmosphere of the game is relaxing. The art is simple yet appealing and the music is jovial but mellow.

There’s honestly not much to do in this game besides tapping on your screen (which you don’t even have to do once you upgrade your habitats), but I think that’s exactly what I like about it. I’ve had enough of my brain cells dying for my deadlines and exams that I’d rather have something brainless to play after my classes.

I love how the game is so easy, convenient to play and requires no commitment at all. I pull out my phone and open this game when I’m in the omelet line or whenever I want to avoid a conversation with my friends and pretend I’m working. Once I think I’ve had enough penguins for the day, I am free from obligation and guilt from quitting the game whenever I want.

The only concern I have for this game is the amount of advertisements you have to go through for a reward, but that’s not mandatory and should not be too much of a drawback.

I personally would rate this game a 9.5/10, 8 points for the penguins and 1.5 points for the effortless gameplay. This game is worth a play — even if it’s just for the penguins.
