President Feldman’s decision regarding the proposal to arm public safety officers on Eastman and River Campuses will be made public on Monday.

This is also when the report from the ad hoc Public Safety Advisory Committee and the recommendation from the Public Safety Review Board will be released. These materials will be available on the Review Board’s website.

Last Saturday, Feldman had told the Campus Times he would release the Committee’s report and the Review Board’s recommendation by the end of the week, delivering his own decision either simultaneously or shortly after.

In his email, Feldman said that one of the reasons for the shift was that Friday is Passover and Good Friday.

The Advisory Committee’s report was submitted to Feldman and the Review Board back in March. The Review Board voted on their recommendation on April 9.

If the proposal is approved by Feldman, armed supervisors — in general the most experienced officers — will be able to go on campus in non-emergency situations. Two armed vehicle officers will be stationed on River Campus (one on either side of the river). The Eastman campus would receive one foot patrol officer.
