For the Sigma Delta Tau sorority philanthropy this year, students can expect an elegant evening wear competition, a talent competition, a question and answer session and hot bodies in sexy swimsuits. But don’t get too excited, boys, because this is the Mr. U of R competition, where 10 males compete to see who has the perfect qualities to win the crown.

“It is always really funny and entertaining,” sophomore and event coordinator Masha Chepovestsky said. “The guys get really into it and have a lot of fun. We are hoping for another great turn-out this year!”

The event will take place on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. in Hubbell Auditorium and the proceeds will benefit Prevent Child Abuse America, a worthy cause that works to prevent child abuse in all forms. This annual philanthropic competition has been very successful in past years, with almost 100 students in attendance, and this year SDT expects even more.

The guys competing are also looking forward to the event.

“I’m excited to make my act as goofy as possible,” sophmore Adam Clark said. “I am going to try to make everyone laugh.” This is his first year participating in the contest.

This event comes at the kick-off of Greek Week, where Greek organizations on campus hold philanthropies or other events that all members, both Greek and non-Greek, can attend

Other events to look forward to are the Rock-A-Thon sponsored by Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and the Anchor Splash sponsored by Delta Gamma sorority, among others later in the week.

Greek Week also includes a fraternity and sorority fair on Nov. 16 in Hirst Lounge at 7 p.m. to educate students who are thinking about joining a fraternity or sorority about the Greek life at UR.

While there are multiple groups of songbirds called “warblers,” this article focuses on the species in the Americas, including those in the family Parulidae — also called “wood warblers,” — and why they are one of the most remarkable songbirds. The URochester Yellowjackets played the Tufts University Jumbos Sept. 26, in a game of field hockey dedicated to Morgan Rodgers, a former lacrosse player from Duke University who passed in 2019 from suicide. The URochester field hockey chapter of Morgan’s Message was there to eliminate the stigma around mental health and asking for help when needed. The Morgan’s Message game is always the last home game in September, to round out Suicide Prevention Month. Read More
