Dean of the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Senior Vice President for Research Robert Clark will become the university’s next provost, University of Rochester President Joel Seligman announced at a Thursday press conference. Current UR Provost Peter Lennie announced earlier this month that he would be stepping down as provost. According to Seligman, the University’s Board of Trustees carried out “a unanimous and enthusiastic vote” in favor of Clark.

On July 1, 2016, Clark will take over the role of University Provost. “Rob will continue as Senior Vice President for Research after July 1, 2016. He will step down as Dean of the Hajim School on that day.”

“Rob has been a key part of our recent progress,” Seligman said, adding that Clark has been “…an individual who has worked well with individuals within this university.”

This year, Clark will join meetings with Lennie, Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Ronald Paprocki and Seligman to prepare for the job. “He is ready for this role,” Seligman concluded.

Schaffer is a member of the class of 2016.
