The music is pumping and you are dancing the night away. By this time, everyone is really starting to get into their groove and just then, the music stops. This is exactly what happened at the Big Gay Party last Friday night at the Delta Upsilon Drama House. Did this party have to end at 2 a.m.?

County laws

According to Monroe County law, alcohol cannot be served after 2 a.m. The same rule applies at UR. Parties, however, can continue past 2 a.m. as long as they are registered as late-night parties. Parties that are registered regularly must end music and stop serving alcohol by 2 a.m.

?There is a whole other set of rules for late night parties,? said Rob Rouzer, Director of Wilson Commons.

?There are specific regulations that have to be met in order to have a late night party. There must be security, and only students with UR ID can be admitted,? he continued.

Exceptions to the rule

He continued to say that the advertising for the event would also have to some of the restrictions specified on it. There are a few times that exceptions are made. Tropicana is open to off campus guests because it coincides with Minority Visitation Weekend. These visiting students can attend the event which can go on until 4 a.m.

The Big Gay Party was not registered as a late night party. Off campus students were able to attend. As a result, it had to be finished by 2 a.m.
