Security Update

UR Security officers were summoned to the Psi Upsilon fraternity house at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 19 to break up an altercation in progress. Officers arriving on the scene located six individuals, all identified as undergraduates, who appeared to be involved in the incident, according to UR Security.Two of the individuals were YU members, according to Security Investigator Dan Lafferty. The information gathered indicated a conflict between one group of four students and another group of two, according to security. The incident began when an unidentified individual removed the turban from the head of a student and made an ethnically derogatory remark, according to security. The person making the derogatory remark was identified. The two students who sustained minor injuries declined medical treatment, according to Lafferty. No one involved in the incident wished to pursue criminal charges and the case has been referred to the Dean of Students Office for further review, according to UR Security.Projector stolen from Harkness HallAn unidentified suspect stole a university-owned Dell MP projector from an office on the 4th floor of Harkness Hall, according to Lafferty. The theft occurred sometime between 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 15. According to Security, there were no signs of forced entry into the office. The projector is estimated in value at $2,500, and the police may be notified at a later time, according to security.Games stolen from Wilson CommonsSix X-Box game cartridges were reported stolen from a cabinet behind the service desk in Wilson Commons. An unidentified party committed the theft some time between 9 p.m. on Sept. 16 and 1 a.m. on Sept. 17, according to UR Security. The games are estimated in value at $300, according to Lafferty.Wallet stolen from Carlson libraryA UR alumna reported the theft of her wallet from her purse sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 4:24 p.m. on Sept. 16. The theft occurred on the second floor of Carlson Library, according to Lafferty. The wallet contained credit cards and personal documents but no cash, according to security. A police report was going to be filed by the victim at a later time.Undergraduate found unconsciousSecurity officers and the Medical Emergency Response Team responded to a call at 11:06 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Theta Chi house. The officers found an unconscious individual lying on a couch, vomiting and breathing shallowly. The individual was identified as a 19-year-old undergraduate and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Specifics surrounding the student’s condition are unknown, though the on-scene supervisor reports that alcohol was definitely involved, according to Lafferty.Several students hospitalized On Sept. 18, in separate incidents, five underage students were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment associated with intoxication, according to UR Security.. One student was transported from the deKiewiet Residence Hall, according to Lafferty. The remaining four were transported from Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls, according to security. Orientation banner recoveredThe “Welcome to Orientation” banner reported stolen from Rush Rhees two weeks ago has been found, according to security. Acting on tips received, investigators recovered the banner from an off-campus residence identified as the “Track House,” which houses several members of the men’s track and cross country teams. A resident in the house acknowledged that the banner was on the premises and freely surrendered it to investigators, according to Lafferty.
