I did not say in my letter that I support underage or binge drinking. I do not agree with either, and I can honestly say that I have never had an alcoholic drink in my life. However, watching my friends last year at UR drink made me realize that the policy at UR is not only unacceptable, it is outright dangerous. It is not a myth that drinking occurs at UR, nor is it true that all students stop after four drinks. It is, however, considerably dangerous for the university to punish those who realize the extent of their actions and seek medical assitance. Many universities realize the repercussions of punishing alcohol poisoned students who seek such assistance and do not punish either the student or their friends. My current university has this policy, which seems like a wise course of action for Rochester. Better to have alcohol on your hands than blood.
