It’s that time again, Valentine’s Day – the time to get your significant other chocolates and roses. Why not sit down to a romantic candlelit dinner as well? Maybe even read some of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” Whether your lover is overseas or just a quick skip away, on this day he or she is extra special. For you singles, I recommend opening up your favorite romance novel or watching your favorite Audrey Hepburn movie to pass the time. Whatever it is you do, make sure you have plenty of the following drinks – they have the potential to start great things.

Aphrodite’s Love PotionI don’t know what it is about gods trying to get people to fall in love. Some like to be matchmakers, but no one really likes being the one matched up. Drink a few of these, and I am sure you will definitely fall in love with someone, or at least go home with them. Mix one ounce of brandy with five ounces of pineapple juice. Pour all of the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake. Pour into a highball glass. Garnish with a cherry and orange slice.French Kiss”You never really know someone until you know how they kiss,” is the line from “40 Days and 40 Nights,” a movie that is full of love and emotion and has nothing to do with getting off. Through turmoil and destruction, the guy gets the girl and gives her one of these – I am not talking about the drink. The ironic thing about both the drink and a real French kiss, is that enough of either can make a person fall head over heels. Mix one ounce of sweet vermouth with one ounce of dry vermouth. Pour the sweet vermouth and dry vermouth into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish with a twist of lemon, sit back and enjoy.

Perfect LoveSome say that there is only one special someone for each one of us. Others say that there is a huge sea with lots of little fish and that no one should worry. I do not know which of these theories is right, but I do know that one night this past summer I found “Perfect Love.” Try this drink – it has sophisticated flavors of almonds, rose and vanilla. Mix one part vodka with some Parfait Amour.Shake until outside is frosty. Strain into a tall, iced shot glass.Gros-Werter can be reached at mgroswerter@campustimes.org.

Notes by Nadia: What’s wrong with being a fan?

I wish that people would just mind their business and stop acting like being a fan of an artist is “weird.”

Making first impressions: Don’t get stuck in your head

Perhaps the only way to prevent yourself from sinking into that ocean of once-seen faces, to light a rescue beacon before it’s too late, is to do something remarkable.
