A UR staff member and student have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Both the staff member and student reported that they tested positive to University Heath Service, a post on UR’s coronavirus update webpage said on Sunday. Both of them were from River Campus, the webpage said, though neither remain there.

No further detail was provided.

According to a Democrat and Chronicle article released Monday, UR made the post after a reporter reached out about a tip that at least one student tested positive for the disease.

The news comes as the outbreak of the coronavirus grows in Monroe County. Monroe County Public Health Commissioner Michael Mendoza announced Monday morning that another COVID-19 patient had died.

The person died at Unity Hospital in Greece, in the second fatality with a confirmed link to the disease in Monroe County. As of 4 p.m. Monday there are 81 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, according to a release from Monroe County Department of Public Health.

When first death of a confirmed COVID-19 patient was reported on March 17, there were only 14 confirmed cases.

The Monroe County Department of Health said that 12 of the COVID-19 patients in the county are hospitalized, and that the department is monitoring 395 people under mandatory quarantine and isolation.
