Months after a petition called for an earlier UR shuttle from Riverview, the Gold Line will now run from 6:30 a.m.

The petition, posted on SA’s Impact site by junior Zdenek Vitesnik, said that last semester’s arrival times were an issue. “There are many students in Riverview who have either athletic practices or work starting at 7 a.m.,” the petition said, “however the first Gold Line reaches campus at 7:40 a.m..”

Now the Gold Line should arrive more than an hour earlier than that, but the change was not without cost. The Green Line, which goes to stores like Wegmans and Target, will not run on a weekday.

Junior Alexander Pavlicin, SA Campus Services Chair, told the Campus Times that in November he, SA president senior Jamal Holtz, and vice-president senior Anne Marie Cortes formed a plan to implement the change. They all sit on the Transportation Advisory Committee, Pavlicin said, which advises the Department of Parking and Transportation.

When Pavlicin, Holtz, and Cortes were told that in order to expand the Gold Line schedule, another schedule would have to be cut, they selected the weekday Green Line, Pavlicin said.

“We worked to find the line that had the least ridership on an annual basis, and we found that was the weekday Green Line service,” Pavlicin said. The Green Line will continue to run on weekends.

Correction (1/20/19): The original headline of this article was changed to reflect that the petition did not directly call for the Gold Line to begin at 6:30 a.m., but more broadly before 7:00 a.m.
