Three local residents between the ages of 13 and 15 were caught tampering with bicycles locked to a rack outside of Dewey Hall on Saturday, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.

A UR staff member called Security after seeing the suspects tampering with the bicycles. When UR Security arrived on the scene, the three ran in different directions.

All were captured and one of the three was found to be carrying a set of bolt cutters, according to Lafferty.

One of the others was caught with a set of wire cutters.

During investigation, UR Security found two bicycles on the rack to have cut marks on their locks, although none had been stolen.

Upon the capture of the three, the Rochester Police Department was called to assist UR Security.

Two of the three suspects were released to their parents, according to Lafferty.

The last suspect refused to provide information to the RPD and was subsequently taken to a juvenile facility in the city.Fraternity TV destroyed in attackResidents of the Theta Chi fraternity house reported that a 50-inch television was destroyed around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to Lafferty.

An unknown person kicked in the screen of the TV that was in the den of the house. The estimated value of the damage was $1,300.

When confronted, the person said that he was just hanging out with some friends. Immediately afterward, brothers from the house assisted in clearing it of all non-residents.

As this occurred, four people entered the house to intervene on the trespasser’s behalf. They were advised by Security to leave or face possible arrest.

At that point, the suspect fled, according to Lafferty. He was found later but refused to stop for officers and escaped with two friends via the pedestrian footbridge.

Trespassing charges are expected to be filed against the suspect within a few days, according to Lafferty.Purse snatched at Eastman SchoolAn Eastman School of Music student reported that her purse was stolen from an unattended practice room, according to Lafferty.

The purse contained an iPod, credit cards, $32 in cash and other personal items.

The purse had been left in the room while the student attended class, according to Lafferty.

No police report has been filed, although the student will cancel her credit cards.Information provided by UR Security.
