Junior Mike Quijano helped lead the golf team to a third place finish last weekend in the Williams College Invitational.

Quijano wrapped up in third place individually with a score of 68-77-145. His stunning first round of 68 was highlighted by a string of six birdies to finish out the day.

UR fell to Williams and Skidmore College, who finished with 583 and 592, respectively. Both squads had players shooting the top two scores individually.

Williams? Will Sicks earned medalist honors shooting a new tournament record 69-68-137 to lift them past the Yellowjackets.

The two-week absence since the Cornell University tournament hasn?t yielded much change in the UR lineup.

UR focused on having more patience in their game and doing a better job of course management.

The biggest factors helping the team finish well were a strong ?determination and confidence?, head coach Rich Johnson said, that they were missing two weeks ago.

Solid play by sophomore Dave Masters, who contributed 74-78-152, and junior Jason Bronstein, who finished with 78-74-152, further contributed to the fine finish this weekend.

Senior captain Joe Quijano added another tremendous performance, shooting a 73-75-148.

This weekend?s excellent performance against other teams from the University Athletic Association conference will help during the spring selection for nationals.

?Anytime we can beat Emory [University], Babson [College], and other good teams from our region, it helps our cause,? Johnson said.

Johnson also expects the Yellowjackets to return in the spring with the solid base they had built this fall to finish strong and head into spring?s nationals mentally, as well as physically, prepared.
