Reel Big Fish chosen as D-Day band
UR Concerts has picked Reel Big Fish as the headlining band for this year’s D-Day celebration, which will take place on April 27.
The concert is a traditional part of D-Day festivities. The band will perform outside during a day that will include carnival rides and plenty of free stuff.
“Students have generally responded positively to Reel Big Fish and we feel that the energy of this band would be appropriate for the festive atmosphere of D-Day,” senior Ashley Eldridge said.
Reel Big Fish is a ska-punk band who is most widely known for their hit single “Sell Out,” off of the 1996 album “Turn The Radio Off.”
Declining balance to be used in Common Market
Declining balance will be in use for non-taxable food items beginning Friday, according to George Morrison.
“There was a blatant rule that you had to use Flex in non-dining halls, until the Corner Store changed it,” Morrison said.
Explaining the reasoning for the change, Morrison said, “When we went away from declining a couple of years ago, sale dropped 40 percent. We’re hoping to capture some of that again.
Senate impeachment hearing of Phase senator
Monday night at the regular Students’ Association Senate meeting, an executive session took place to consider the impeachment of Phase senator and senior Sean Sullivan.
The reason for his impeachment was repeated unexcused abscences from regular senate meetings. “I had excuses. They just didn’t receive them,” Sullivan said.
In order to impeach, 14 of the 16 senators present would have had to vote in favor of impeachment. This would constitute two-thirds of the entire senate.
Sullivan was not impeached and the vote is unknown, due to the privacy of executive session.
Sullivan was elected in September after the All-Campus Judical Committee ordered the Phase elections to be done again.
Club style salsa dancing lessons
In the Hive Pub on the third floor of Wilson Commons, the Spanish and Latino Students’ Association will sponsor salsa dance lessons.
This is in preparation for SALSA’s fifteenth annual Tropicana Dance, which will take place on April 19.
One of the first female fighter pilots speaks at UR
Missy Cummings, who is one of the United States Navy’s first female figher pilots will give a speech entitled “Breaking Down Barriers” on April 11 in honor of women’s history month.
The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Hubbell Auditorium in Hutchison Hall and is free and open to the public.
