UR’s Women’s Volleyball won both of their matches versus DeSales University and SUNY Morrisville on Saturday at the Palestra. They won both games in three set sweeps. 

The first match versus DeSales began eventfully as the two teams battled back and forth in the first set. DeSales took an early 5-3 lead only for UR to score three straight to make it 6-5. Both teams traded points, with UR’s lead getting as large as three after a kill by sophomore Lilly Kraemer (#12) made the score 16-13.

UR was at the brink of winning the first set with the score 23-20 when DeSales scored four straight points to turn the tables. Unfazed, UR won the set courtesy of two kills from junior Ruby Moore (#5) and one from Kraemer. 

The second set was also a set of runs for both teams. UR and DeSales each scored three straight points three times in the set. UR scored four straight to open the game up. With the score 20-15, both teams scored five and allowed five to end the set in UR’s favor. 

In the third set, DeSales scored five straight to make the score 6-3. Next, UR went on a 9-5 run to retake the lead at 12-11. DeSales then scored four straight before the two teams traded points. UR next went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 21-18. Finally, despite a spirited effort from DeSales, UR emerged victorious in the match.

Junior Rylee Bergeron (#11) lead UR with 13 kills, followed by sophomore Myla Nover-Estes (#10) with 12. Senior Alexia Nelms (#16) led the team with 45 assists on her Senior Day. 

Next, UR defeated SUNY Morrisville in three sets. UR quickly went ahead in the first set 9-4. Although SUNY Morrisville closed the deficit to two before UR scored four straight to make the score 18-12. Both teams scored and allowed seven points in the set’s final stretch en route to UR’s 25-19 set victory.

UR opened up the second set with a four point run. Both teams sat at a deadlock during another even run of 10 points each to make the score 14-10 in UR’s favor. SUNY Morrisville next scored five points to UR’s four before UR scored five straight to put SUNY Morrisville on the ropes. Shortly thereafter, UR scored two more to win the set 25-16. 

UR scored five points to SUNY Morrisville’s one to begin the third set. SUNY Morrisville next scored five straight to take the lead 6-5. Both teams traded points twice to make the score 7-6 in SUNY Morrisville’s favor. Then, UR scored four straight, followed by three from SUNY Morrisville, and then four more from UR to make it 15-11 for UR. The game stayed at around a four point difference with the score 20-16 for UR when SUNY Morrisville scored four straight to tie it. UR closed the game out on a five to two run to win the match. The final set score was 25-22.

Bergeron again led the Yellowjackets with 14 kills, followed by Nover-Estes with 11. Nelms led the team with 34 assists. 

This Senior Day, UR Volleyball honored the team’s lone senior, Alexia Nelms, for her contributions to the team. 

With these two wins, UR improved their record to 12-15. They will next play a tournament against Susquehanna University, William Smith College, and Stevenson University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania on Nov. 8-9.
