UR women’s soccer lost by a score of 2-0 to University of Washington in St. Louis (WashU) at Fauver Field on Sunday, Nov. 3. 

WashU scored their first goal in the 8th minute of the first half when junior Grace Elhert (#28) scored her 12th goal of the season, with an assist courtesy of sophomore Sophie Viscovich (#2). 

Viscovich got another shot on goal just a minute later, but UR senior goalie Grace Kuropatkin (#00) saved it.

In the 19th minute, Viscovich tried Kuropatkin again, to no avail. In the 21st, WashU graduate student Ally Hackett (#29) attempted a shot, which was again saved by Kuropatkin. In the following seconds, UR advanced the ball down the field, leading to a shot by senior Claire Grover (#17), which was saved by WashU’s graduate student goalie Sidney Conner (#33). Following a UR corner kick, UR first year Remi Cherkas (#11) attempted another shot, which Conner saved. 

Subsequently, UR first year Natalie Santangelo (#10) unsuccessfully tried to get a shot by Conner. Four minutes later, in the 36th minute, Grover tested Conner again but the goalie prevailed. 

From the 41st to 43rd minutes, WashU received three corner kicks and unloaded a barrage of shots near UR’s goal, all of which went wide or were blocked. Following UR’s stellar defense, time expired in the first half. 

WashU received another corner kick early in the second half, but was unable to take a shot. Afterward, WashU attempted two shots, the first of which was saved by Kuropatkin while the second was blocked. In the 59th minute, a shot from WashU junior Grace Elhert (#28) was also blocked. After recovering possession, Elhert shot again, which Kuropatkin saved. 

In the 66th minute, WashU first year Olivia Clemons (#9) had her shot saved by Kuropatkin. Six minutes later, UR senior Natalie Kocsis’ (#29) shot went wide of the goal. Just a minute later, WashU senior Sara Gianotti (#16) had her shot blocked. In the 76th minute, WashU first-year Cami Colpitts (#12) also had her shot blocked. 

WashU scored their second and final goal in the 79th minute when Clemons scored her 17th goal of the season, with an assist from Colpitts. 

Neither team would score in the final 11 minutes of the game, although WashU would attempt two more. UR was unable to attempt another shot. With the score 2-0 in WashU’s favor, time expired. 

On Senior Day, UR honored Grace Kuropatkin (#00), Syd Coggins (#9), Jordyn Kowalkowski (#13), Claire Grover (#17), Emma Cohen (#18), Olivia Geno (#20), Emma Bates (#22), and Natalie Kocsis (#26) for their contributions to the team. 

With the loss, UR’s record stands at 11-3-2. They will next travel to Atlanta, GA to play Emory University on Nov. 9.
