UR’s men’s soccer team defeated the University of Washington in St. Louis (WashU) by a score of 1-0 on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Fauver Stadium.

First, UR drew WashU offside in the second minute, but they were unable to capitalize with a shot.

WashU made their first shot attempt in the third minute when graduate student Owen Culver’s (#40) shot was blocked.

Six minutes later, WashU first-year Jamie Lee (#19) attempted a shot, only for it to be saved by UR’s graduate student goalie Santino Lupica-Tondo (#0). In the 12th minute, WashU sophomore Quentin Gomez (#14) had his shot blocked, as well. Shortly thereafter, Lupica-Tondo saved another shot, this time from graduate student Jesus Tadeo (#29).

In the 22nd minute, WashU tried two more shots, the first of which came from Tadeo and was blocked. Lupica-Tondo saved the second from first year Quintin Wallace (#15). Two minutes after that, Culver tried again, but Lupica-Tondo prevailed.

UR recovered the ball and graduate student Kamal Ibrahim attempted a shot on goal in the 26th minute, which WashU sophomore goalie Cal L’Hommedieu (#33) saved. Two minutes later, UR sophomore Milos Bisenic (#7) attempted a shot but missed to the left.

In the 32nd minute, Bisenic and junior Ashton Prescott (#28) both attempted shots on goal, but L’Hommedieu saved both of them. Several penalties prevented either team from taking a shot in the next six minutes.

In the 38th minute, Bisenic broke through, scoring a goal with an assist from junior Kol Bassuk (#4). Locked in a stalemate, neither team attempted a shot in the final seven minutes of the period.

UR attempted to extend their lead early in the second half when senior Jeremiah Anandarajah (#3) shot the ball, but missed.

Lupica-Tondo saved another shot in the 59th minute, this time from sophomore Colin Link (#13).

In the 66th minute, WashU junior Zach Susee (#10) missed. Just a minute later, Lupica-Tondo recorded another save, this time from Gomez.

Neither team was able to score in the final 24 minutes of play due to stellar defense and some physicality on both ends. The final score was 1-0 UR.

On this Senior Day, UR honored seniors Logan Kinajil-Moran (#0), Jeremiah Anandarajah (#3), Tyler Moran (#6), Juan Lucena Fois (#8), Nick Swanger (#14), and Ryan Szymczyk (#25) for their contributions to the team.

With the victory, UR improved their record to 9-4-3. They will next play Emory University on Nov. 9 in Atlanta, GA.
