These new trends will die out like the micro-minis of yesterday, of which I have four of in my closet collecting dust, but as Yves Saint Laurent, a god of the couture world, said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.”

Don’t worry, short skirts will always be a staple in any wardrobe. I say if you have nice legs and do not have overwhelming cankles, then go for it. So here are some of the hot and affordable looks for spring!

Long Shorts – Yes. I know those Old Navy commercials are annoying, but Gwyneth Paltrow, Lindsay Lohan and Kirsten Dunst were all seen sporting a pair, so I figure they are alright. Plus, if you are one of those people who is not comfortable with their thigh cellulite spilling out from under their cutoffs, then these longer shorts are for you. Long shorts can also be worn in a dressy style, if you pair them with a fancy shrug and some dressy shoes.

Wedge Heels – A retro shoe that debuted in the 1950s is making a comeback! These are great, fun summer shoes that will give petite people that extra lift and make tall people, well, just that much taller. These look great with long shorts – see above – or the bell skirts that are also cool right now too.

Boho Chic – This new genre of fashion is relatively new to the fashion lexicon. The forerunners of this new frontier include Mary-Kate Olsen and Sienna Miller. The look is a hybrid of the costumes from “Dances with Wolves” and a $2,000 Balenciaga bag to complete the look. If you are like me and have never seen $2,000 in your life, then there is a Balenciaga-style bag at The Gap being sold for about $1,970 less.

There was an entire New York Times Sunday fashion section devoted to this Soho world and to ask the question, “If Mary-Kate is dressing like a bag lady, then where is all her money going?” To complete this look, long hippie skirts, oversized beads, aviator sunglasses and metallic-thong Birkenstocks should do it.

Don’t worry guys, I have not forgotten about you. Anything from Ralph Lauren or J. Crew is usually acceptable to your female counterparts except, for blue jean shorts. Don’t wear them ever. It is just bad.
