Changing the sports culture on campus

Maybe it is the school, maybe it’s the people, but it’s fair to say that UR is rather lacking in school spirit when it comes to sports.

What do sports teams do in the offseason?

Most sports are seasonal and are only played for part of the academic year. The season ended in the fall for several teams, including volleyball, field hockey, and soccer. So what do those teams do during the spring semester, when there are not any games?

Interceptions help football win defensive battle

Men’s Football defeated Alfred State 20–14 on Saturday, Sept. 15, in a defensive battle. The ‘Jackets defense hauled in six interceptions, four of which came from junior defensive back Robert Grant, and secured their first win of the season.

Red card helps Men’s Soccer hold off Hobart

Men’s Soccer defeated the visiting Hobart Statesmen 2–1, running their undefeated record to 3–0–0.

Gudipudi discusses successful tennis season

Sophomore Sravya Gudipudi has consistently had a strong impact for Women’s Tennis. She often plays in the No. 1 spot in singles play and also completes at high levels in doubles play. Earlier this month, Gudipudi earned UAA All-Academic honors.

Gabbey reflects on first pitching outing

Senior Owen Gabbey has been a key player for Men’s Baseball this year, playing first base, third base, and catcher. Additionally, he made his first pitching appearance two weeks ago, when his four scoreless innings helped the ‘Jackets come back to defeat St. Lawrence.

Men’s Baseball makes two combacks to sweep St. Lawrence

Things started off in favor of St. Lawrence when the team jumped out to a 5–0 lead by the top of the fourth inning. The ‘Jackets quickly reeled the Saints back in by scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

First-year Hickton finds motivation from competition

Declan Hickton is a first-year on Men’s Golf. In March’s Jekyll Island Individual Championship, he finished second place among 39 competitors. Hickton also helped the ‘Jackets finish seventh at the Hershey Cup two weeks ago.

For Fujimaki, college tennis is a team sport

Junior Masaru Fujimaki has played for Men’s Tennis all of his three years at UR. He is a team captain and usually plays in the number-one spot in both singles and doubles competition.
