Abandoned truck found down embankment

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 25, a security supervisor patrolling campus observed a road sign at the curve of Alumni Road Circle bent over. Checking further, a pick up truck was found to have driven over the curbing and gone partially down the embankment towards the river.

According to security,no one was found to be in the truck and a canvas of the surrounding areas failed to identify the driver of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle for undetermined reasons left the scene of the accident. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to two of the wheels.

The Rochester Police Department was notified and the vehicle was towed from the scene to the police impound lot pending further investigation.

The vehicle involved was found to belong to an undergraduate student at the University. The police are the primary investigating agency in this case, as the accident occurred on Rochester city property.

Items stolen from Psi Upsilon House

A brother residing in the Psi Upsilon Fraternity House reported that between Dec. 22 and Jan. 17 unidentified person(s) entered his room and stole his watch, valued at an estimated $700, from his desk drawer.

The victim reported that he had secured his room when he departed for holiday break in December. He returned to school on Jan. 15. The victim did not discover the theft until Jan. 17 and notified security, Lafferty said.

There were no signs of forced entry into the room or the fraternity house. The victim was advised to file a police report.

Digital balance stolen from Hutchinson

A staff member in Hutchinson Hall reported between Jan. 23 at 12 p.m. and Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m. an unidentified suspect(s) entered a first floor lab and stole a digital balance, valued at an estimated $800, from a desk in the lab.

There were no signs of forced entry into the lab and the staff member reported securing the door when departing on Jan. 23 and finding the door closed but unlocked upon returning the following morning. The staff member was to file a police report via tel-serve, Lafferty said.

Wallet stolen in Hutchinson

A graduate student reported between 3:10 and 3:20 p.m., on Jan. 29 that an unknown person(s) stole her wallet from her backpack which was in a computer room on the fourth floor of Hutchison Hall.

The victim said that she left her backpack in the computer room while she went to another area of the building and discovered the theft upon her return, according to security reports.

The wallet contained $80 cash, credit cards and other miscilanious personal documents and papers.

Resident arrested on trepassing charges

This week, officers patrolling campus observed a person previously advised to stay off the property near the bookstore at the Frederick Douglass Building.

The Rochester Police were notified and Steven Clayton, a 43-year-old city resident was arrested and taken into custody on trespassing charges.
